Hi! Carl here with just a little background so you know where I’m coming from. I’ll jump right in…

I used to be a “meat and potatoes” kind of guy.  It’s hard to be otherwise growing up in Chicago, and until recently, I really didn’t know any different.  But more on that shortly.

I grew up on the North Side of Chicago until I went to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.  After school I ended up in LA, which is where I have been since.  It’s so cliché to say, but it’s the weather.  I still of course make it back to Chicago as much as I can.  My sister, friends and extended family all live there, so it’s still my home.

Since I can remember my passion has been sports, and it was always what I was best at. Baseball and soccer were my main staples growing up, but I ended up falling in love with soccer and made that my only sport around high school. I  played soccer at Georgetown and continue to play as much as can, or as much as my body will let me. Today, I get most of my sports fix from ESPN and watch more of that channel than any man should. My teams are the Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls and Cubs.

Sports are my release and I genuinely crave physical activity on a daily basis. To meet this physical need I’ve always tried to live somewhat of a healthy lifestyle, but my idea of “health” continues to change.

I am now a vegetarian / vegan. That’s right, the “meat and potatoes” guy. It started after I met Cindy when my eating tendencies shifted more towards hers. Anything for the ladies, right? Amazingly enough I started to slowly realize that I was feeling better and recovering from workouts faster. So for fun one week I decided to try a vegan diet. Needless to say, I haven’t turned back. My energy levels are great, I sleep like a baby and I feel better than I have in years.

That said, I don’t have all the answers and still have a lot to discover about the lifestyle. I’ve developed a passion for nutrition and try to learn as much as I can in my spare time. I am still learning where to get my protein, what foods to eat, how to prepare them, etc. – all the questions you probably have too.  Honestly, I’m just a regular guy from the Midwest trying to live a happy and healthy life, and I truly believe that the food I eat makes a difference.

My goal with this site is not to try and tell you how to live your life, but simply share how I’m living mine. If you’re interested, fantastic, let’s figure this thing out together. If not, that’s ok too; you’re probably a White Sox fan anyway.
