Toms Shoes

April 5, 2011

Through a friend of ours that works at Toms, Cindy and I learned about an event that is going on next Tuesday, April 5th. “One Day Without Shoes” is an all-day event meant to spread awareness about the difficulties that so many people face by simply not having shoes. If you don’t already know, Toms Shoes has a One for One program, which means that for every pair of Toms you buy, they’ll give one away to someone in need. You can help someone else that easily, so make Toms your next pair.

Here are some of the reasons why having shoes is so important, and most certainly, something we all take for granted.

  • In many developing countries, children must walk barefoot for miles to school, clean water & medical help.
  • Hundreds of millions of children are at risk of injury, infection & soil-transmitted diseases that most can’t afford to prevent or treat.
  • In certain regions of Ethiopia, wearing shoes and practicing good hygiene can prevent podoconiosis, a disease that causes swelling of the feet and legs due to prolonged exposure to irritant soil.

Check out the video below about the event and join us!  Cindy and I will be participating in One Day Without Shoes and going shoeless all day next Tuesday. We’ll make sure to report back on our day and would love to hear about your experience should you decide to participate too!

Amazing, a small company started in Venice, CA, helping so many people. It just takes one idea to make a difference. What’s yours?  Here is theirs…
